Job summary

Hermeus is hiring a Powertrain Responsible Engineer to own mechanical components and assemblies that generate and transmit power for hypersonic vehicles. You will lead design, analysis, testing, and qualification of gearboxes, motors, and turbomachinery.

The role requires strong fundamentals in mechanics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, materials science, and manufacturing, with collaboration across engineering and production teams to accelerate prototype flight hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline (mechanical, aerospace, physics, materials, etc.).
• Experience using CAD to design parts and assemblies.
• 3+ years of engineering, competition team, or applied research in fluid or engine systems.

Responsibilities

• Fully own critical flight hardware.
• Architect and place components within systems.
• Component design, analysis, development testing, qualification, production introduction.
• Scope vehicle-level operational methods and limits for reliability and safety.
• Design/build gearboxes, pumps, motors, and generators for hypersonic aircraft.
• Develop testing infrastructure to validate novel designs.
• Collaborate with manufacturing to establish production readiness.
