Job summary

Hermeus Corporation is seeking a Powertrain Responsible Engineer to own mechanical power-generation components for hypersonic vehicles. You will lead design, analysis, testing, and production introduction of gearboxes, pumps, motors, and generators, collaborating across systems and with manufacturing.

The role requires strong 1st principles in mechanics, fluid dynamics, and thermal analysis, plus hands-on hardware development and willingness to travel for flight tests.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline (mechanical, aerospace, physics, materials)
• Experience using CAD to design parts and assemblies
• 3+ years of engineering, competition team, or applied research in fluid or engine systems
• Passion for hardware design and development
• Willingness to travel to support hardware and flight tests
• Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed

Responsibilities

• Fully own critical flight hardware
• Architect and place components within systems
• Component level architecture and sizing
• Design, analyze, test, qualify, and productionize components
• Ensure reliability and safety across production and operation phases
• Make risk-conscious decisions aligned with program posture
• Prioritize broad work scope to meet objectives
• Design/build gearboxes, pumps, motors, generators for hypersonic aircraft
• Develop testing infrastructure to validate novel designs
• Collaborate with manufacturing to enable production readiness
