Job summary

CFD Research Corporation seeks an engineer to apply advanced modeling and simulation to MDAO workflows for hypersonic aerospace systems. You will conduct research into coupled aero-thermal behavior and help improve design performance and resilience.

The role requires 2+ years in aero/aerothermal analysis, experience with CFD tools (CFD++, STAR-CCM+, Kestrel), OpenMDAO, Python, and Linux. U.S. citizenship and clearance eligibility are required.

Qualifications

• Citizen of the United States with eligibility for security clearance.
• Master’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years of aero/aerothermal analysis experience.
• Experience with high-fidelity CFD tools CFD++, STAR-CCM+ or Kestrel for aerodynamic/aerothermal analysis.
• Strong CFD background including grid generation, hypersonic flow, wind tunnel testing, and aerodynamic model development.
• Experience with coupled/multiphysics analysis involving aerodynamic, thermal, and structural effects.
• Experience integrating physics-based modeling within MDAO workflows (OpenMDAO).
• Proficiency in Python and Linux-based operating systems.
• Experience with gradient-based and gradient-free optimization methods.

Responsibilities

• Apply advanced modeling and simulation to MDAO workflows for hypersonic systems.
• Conduct research into coupled aerodynamic, thermal, and structural behavior of high-speed systems.
• Support delivery and deployment of modeling/optimization processes to AFRL and other DoD customers.
