Job summary

Stratolaunch is seeking a level II, Sr-, or Staff-level Mechanical Engineer to advance avionics packaging for air-launched hypersonic platforms. You will design electronics enclosures, perform basic analyses, and collaborate with mechanical, avionics, and manufacturing teams.

The role emphasizes requirements development, 3D CAD design, manufacturability, and test readiness. Strong communication and security clearance readiness are valued in this Mojave-based position.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of electronics packaging, mechanical design, manufacturing, and avionics systems.
• Significant experience with electronics/avionics packaging.
• Experience with basic structural, heat transfer, and thermal hand calcs.
• Experience with metallic structures design, analysis and manufacturing.
• Experience with aerospace vendors and risk management.
• Experience in small engineering teams with multiple responsibilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to a diverse team of mechanical, avionics, and manufacturing engineers.
• Develop requirements for avionics systems and units.
• Design electronic enclosures for avionics components and create 3D CAD models.
• Perform structural, heat transfer and thermal hand calcs and basic analyses.
• Create production drawings and ensure designs are manufacturable.
• Support manufacturing to ensure units are installed correctly.
• Support test planning, failure analysis, and flight qualification.
• Develop packaging processes to improve yield and reliability, with pass/fail metrics.
• Prepare content for design and test readiness reviews.
• Communicate with Avionics, Structures and Manufacturing Leads as needed.
