Job summary

Canvas is seeking a Hypersonic Aeropropulsion Test Engineer to support the 715th Test Squadron at Arnold Air Force Base, Tullahoma, TN. This on-site role involves developing test plans, conducting analyses of hypersonic propulsion tests, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary engineering team.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and 3+ years of relevant experience, along with strong analytical skills and proficiency in MATLAB or Python.

Job description

Hypersonic Aeropropulsion Test Engineer

Location: Arnold, AFB- Tullahoma, TN (On-Site)

The Hypersonic Aeropropulsion Test Engineer will provide critical engineering support to the 715th Test Squadron at Arnold Air Force Base. This role will involve planning, executing, and analyzing hypersonic propulsion system tests in ground test facilities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of hypersonic aerodynamics, propulsion systems, and test methodologies.

Duties
  • Develop and review test plans, procedures, and data reduction techniques for hypersonic propulsion system testing.
  • Support the integration of test articles into ground test facilities.
  • Monitor and analyze test data in real-time, identifying anomalies and ensuring test objectives are met.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing test results and conclusions.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and government personnel.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of test processes and methodologies.
  • Maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in hypersonic propulsion technology.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in hypersonic aerodynamics and/or propulsion testing is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ground test facilities and data acquisition systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with data analysis software (e.g., MATLAB, Python) is a plus.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering. (Seeking undergrads or junior engineers looking to acquire graduate level degrees.)
  • Familiarity with ground test facilities and data acquisition systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with data analysis software (e.g., MATLAB, Python) is a plus.
  • An advanced degree and background or coursework related to the technical areas described above is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Scientific Python (primary code) and Matlab (secondary).
  • The ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with senior staff and peers.
  • Communications must be clear, concise, and at the appropriate level.
  • Must be timely, efficient, and produce work of acceptable quality.
  • Completed work must meet project/program objectives.
  • Must exhibit and foster cooperation and teamwork, enhance customer relations, and actively promote rapport with customers.
  • Must utilize resources effectively to accomplish mission.
  • Focused adherence to safety and security requirements in an office-based environment is required.
