Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a Program Design Phase Manager to serve as an internal consulting partner to the Design Project Manager and team. You will guide planning, align client requirements, manage design-build/design-assist delivery, and oversee financials and compliance with engineering standards.

You will lead cross-functional coordination with BD, engineering, estimating, and PMs, identify risks, and ensure high-quality, on-time project outcomes across hyperscale data center programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Science, or equivalent technical training and related experience.
• 6+ years of progressive engineering or construction management experience.
• PE licensure preferred.
• Outstanding organizational skills and time management skills.
• Excellent analytical and technical writing skills.
• Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Advanced computer proficiency, including MS Office and familiarity with Autodesk Products and Revit.
• Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment while adhering to project deadlines.
• Ability to efficiently review and critique construction documents.
• Understanding of MEP calculations and design, building codes and standards, and MEP system costs.
• Ability to develop design tasks and distribute amongst the design team.

Responsibilities

• Manages larger or several smaller design-build and design-assist projects and ensures on-time delivery.
• Develops and maintains client relationships; coordinates with cross-functional teams.
• Communicates goals and schedules with business development, engineering, estimating, and PM; assesses risk.
• Manages all financial aspects of design contracts to maintain profitability and cash flow.
• Manages cost impact studies or design optimization; coordinates resources for estimating.
• Provides engineering support to business development during pursuit of projects.
• Participates in developing standards, methods, and procedures for engineering; trains staff.
• Develops and maintains document control in compliance with standards.
• Manages design/coordination of QA/QC processes.
• Plans and coordinates on-site field surveys to collect/deliver data.
• Assists in early procurement leveling efforts.
