Hyperbaric Technician – MyMichigan Health

Summary: Under direct supervision of the provider, the Hyperbaric Technician is responsible for patient assessment, care, and maintaining appropriate documentation. The role requires basic knowledge of specialty and primary care, with the ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. The Technician coordinates care to ensure high‑quality, compassionate services, oversees patient management across office locations, and serves as the liaison with other organizations and departments. Additional duties include ordering medical, pharmacy, and office supplies, ensuring compliance with MyMichigan Health policies, OSHA guidelines, CLIA regulations, and other regulatory agencies; training new staff, students, and float resources; providing patient education on treatment modalities and medication management; and assisting with general office tasks when needed.

Responsibilities
  • (30%) Triages all calls, schedules urgent/emergent add‑ons, receives and relays test results, and supports, directs, and refers patients for consults, testing, and insurance pre‑certification.
  • (30%) Greets patients/family, performs routine pre‑examination procedures including vital signs, records objective and subjective data, maintains accurate patient records, performs medication reconciliation, and processes refills within scope.
  • (20%) Assists provider with examinations and procedures.
  • (20%) Prepares and cleans the patient area, sets up equipment, disposes contaminated supplies, and sterilizes medical instruments.
Certifications and Licences
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through AMT, Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through AAMA, or equivalent credential such as CCMA.
  • Medical First Responder, Emergency Medical Tech Basic/Specialist, or Paramedic through the State of Michigan.
  • Registered Radiologic Technologist through ARRT.
  • Basic Life Support certification within 90 days of hire.
  • CHT Credential required within 2 years of receiving training.
  • 40‑hour hyperbaric medicine introductory course (NBDHMT) completed within 3 months of hire.
Education

High School Diploma or GED required.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides complete patient assessment within the scope of practice.
  • Performs patient care measures including injections, minor dressing changes, and blood specimen collection.
  • Assists with procedures such as EKG, PFT, ABI, and NST.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Uses office software (MAPS, MCIR Practice Management, EMR, LIS, dictation systems) and other necessary programs.
  • Maintains confidentiality and ensures HIPAA compliance.
  • Performs clerical duties such as filing insurance forms, correspondence, and patient records.
  • Orders supplies and medications.
  • Maintains accurate documentation and coding in the medical record.
  • Participates in annual quality reviews as required.
  • Provides age‑appropriate care per department standards.
  • Operates and maintains the hyperbaric facility and equipment, including preventive and required maintenance.
  • Explains hyperbaric treatment procedures to patients and reinforces education.
  • Assists with patient transport and inventory management.
  • Participates in hyperbaric education programs and orientation of new personnel.
  • Operates departmental photography equipment and maintains photographic files.
  • Assists with wound care as appropriate.
  • Performs TCOM monitoring and documents results.
Physical / Mental Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Exposure to stressful situations involving public contact, trauma, grief, and death.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including latex materials or suitable substitutes.
