Job summary

U.S. Department of the Interior's Grand Coulee Power Office seeks an experienced mechanical engineer to provide mentorship and technical leadership on a range of complex projects at Grand Coulee Dam, the nation’s largest hydropower facility.

The role involves designing modifications to support hydropower generators up to 805 MW, performing routine maintenance testing and inspections, and serving as project manager or COR on smaller efforts.

Qualifications

• Mechanical engineering foundation and professional competency.
• Ability to mentor and provide technical expertise on complex projects.
• Experience coordinating projects and managing vendor interactions.

Responsibilities

• Investigate generator performance and resolve lubrication or vibration issues.
• Design modifications to pump and piping systems for up to 805 MW generators.
• Perform inspections and diagnostic testing during routine outages to assess equipment condition and improve maintenance processes.
• Conduct acceptance testing and oversee testing before equipment returns to service after outages.
• Serve as project manager and/or COR for smaller projects; act as SME for larger projects.
