Job summary

Teens for Food Justice seeks a part-time Youth Programs Instructor to lead hands-on hydroponics, food justice, and urban agriculture activities across NYC partner sites in Manhattan and the Bronx.

Reporting to the Senior Program Manager, you will engage youth, manage classroom dynamics, prepare materials, and help create inclusive, joyful learning environments for all participants during the 2026-27 school year.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience working with youth in educational, afterschool, camp, or community settings.
• Strong youth engagement and group facilitation skills.
• Ability to travel across NYC and arrive on time to partner sites.
• Proficient in Google Drive and able to manage data tracking software; comfortable with Windows PC.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to complete required food safety and youth safety trainings.

Responsibilities

• Lead and co-lead hands-on activities related to hydroponics, food justice, urban agriculture, sustainability, nutrition, cooking, STEM, and youth leadership.
• Facilitate prepared lessons, workshops, afterschool sessions, and activities; adapt to meet needs.
• Support students and educators in connecting food, farming, health, environment, and equity.
• Prepare, organize, transport, set up, and clean up materials; document participation and outcomes.
• Collaborate with program staff and partners; participate in meetings and events.
