Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking an experienced maintenance professional to support Sierrita operations in Arizona. The role focuses on mechanical repair, preventive maintenance, and welding across pumps, piping, and hydraulic systems.

You will diagnose, repair, and install mechanical components, operate mobile equipment, and perform safety-focused tasks within a 24/7 operation. A strong emphasis on English communication and safety compliance is required.

Qualifications

• 1 year of mechanical/maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Academic and practical competencies required, including safety.
• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written safety instructions in English.
• Ability to communicate in English regarding tasks, procedures and safety standards.
• Welding proficiency (MIG, TIG, Stick).
• Knowledge of pumps, valves, expansion joints, check valves and repairs.

Responsibilities

• Assist with and perform component diagnostic, replacement and repairs on equipment (upenders, mixers, pumps, etc.).
• Perform mechanical and lubrication preventive maintenance and check oil levels, seals, and filters.
• Remove, repair and install piping and pump components (valves, expansion joints, check valves).
• Operate mobile equipment as needed (cranes, forklifts, etc.).
• Weld (MIG, TIG, Stick) on structures and equipment.
• Perform other duties as required.

What You Will Do

• Assists with and performs component diagnostic, replacement and repairs on, but not limited to: Upenders, rigidizers, mixers, compressors, overhead cranes, fire systems, pump systems, and hydraulic systems. May also work on Pit dewatering systems.
• Performs mechanical and lubrication preventative maintenance by checking oil levels and changing oil, checks seals for leakage, grease, maintains compressors, checks filters ext.
• Performs the removal, repair and installation of piping and pump components, such as: valves, expansion joints, and check valves.
• May operate mobile equipment such as: hydro lifts, mobile cranes, forklifts, man lifts, overhead cranes, boom trucks and light duty vehicles.
• May perform welding (Mig, Tig, and Stick) on structures (stairways, guards and handrails, ext.) and equipment (piping, cathode press, upender, ext.)
• Performs other duties as required.

What You Bring To Freeport

• One (1) year experience in mechanical/maintenance or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance.
• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety.
• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures in English.
• Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards.
• Proficiency in welding/cutting (MIG, TIG, Stick)
• Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, welding, plumbing, machine shop, blueprints, schematics, fabrication, and part lists and repair
• Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair.
• Knowledge of pumps (valves, expansion joints, check valves) and ability to repair them.
• Ability to troubleshoot.

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $24.00 - $32.00/hour . This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
