Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan Tyrone, NM, seeks a skilled trade worker to support the leaching process at the Tyrone open-pit copper complex. You will perform pipe fusions, understand plant nomenclature, assist with spray heads and leach fields, and handle loading, delivering, and unloading pipe and materials.

The role requires at least six months in the trade, a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather.

Qualifications

• Six months of experience in the trade.
• Completed academic and practical competencies and pass required safety assessments.

Responsibilities

• Performs pipe fusions using fusing machine.
• Knowledge of plant nomenclature including sumps, pumps, and leaching areas.
• Assists with placement of evaporative spray heads and drip systems on leach fields.
• Loads, delivers, and unloads pipe and materials.
• Operates loaders, forklifts, boom trucks, and light vehicles.
• Maintains area housekeeping and performs maintenance.

Tyrone is an open-pit copper mining complex located in Grant County, New Mexico – just 10 miles south of the historic mining community of Silver City. The copper processing facilities currently consist of a solvent extraction/electrowinning operation with an annual maximum capacity of approximately 100 million pounds of copper.

Description

Performs duties related to the leaching process and leach field construction.

• Performs pipe fusions using fusing machine
• Responsible for having knowledge of plant nomenclature to include sumps, pumps, and leaching areas
• Responsible for having knowledge of various evaporative spray heads and drip systems and may assist with and perform the proper placement of these on leach fields
• Perform loading, delivering, and unloading pipe and materials
• Operate mobile equipment such as loaders, forklifts, boom trucks, and light duty vehicles and UTV (Utility terrain vehicle)
• Perform area housekeeping
• Perform maintenance activities
• Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Six (6) months of experience in the trade
• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety.

Preferred

• High School diploma or GED
• Pipe FusionMachine experience: 4\", 4\"-12\", 6\"-18\", 8\"-24\", and 12\"-36\" machines
• Proficient with hand tools
• Experience in in fusing 3\" to 30\" pipe
• Experience Operating backhoes, forklifts, loaders, dozers, and excavators
• Ability to work outside during scheduled shift in all weather conditions
• Experience with equipment monitoring and data entry via computer
• Ability to work a shift of physical nature; lifting, pulling, bending, and dragging

• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
• Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
• Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
• This is a Safety sensitive role
• Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, and work on elevated platforms
• Occasionally may be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the work day
• May be required to work a non-standard schedule which may include shift work (other than day shift) in a 24/7/365 operation
• Occasionally may be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the work day
• Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required

What We Offer You

The estimated pay range for this role is currently$23.00 - $31.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
