Job summary

McKim & Creed is seeking a motivated Hydrographic Survey Technician to plan, install equipment, calibrate, collect data, and produce final hydrographic maps. You will review data for quality, support client objectives, and travel for field work up to 70% of the time.

The role requires 0–2 years in hydrographic surveying, a HS diploma with hydrography training, strong documentation skills, and the ability to operate CAD and hydrographic software. A valid license is needed.

Qualifications

  • 0-2 years of hydrographic survey experience and data processing.
  • High school diploma or GED with hydrography technical training.
  • Must be self-motivated, responsible, and reliable.
  • Able to make objective and rational decisions.
  • Good documentation skills and strong work ethic.
  • Boat experience; knowledge of tides and currents; valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and install equipment; calibrate and collect data for mapping.
  • Review data, perform quality checks, and process data into final maps.
  • Make safety and quality decisions; advise clients based on objectives.
  • Travel 50–70% for field work, including weekends/holidays.

Job description

OVERVIEW:

Responsible for planning, equipment installation, calibration, execution (data collection), data reviews, quality checks, data processing and final mapping.

YOUR DAY-DAY WILL INCLUDE:
  • Being responsible for making many decisions concerning safety and quality.
  • Making recommendations to clients based on their objectives.

WHAT YOU NEED:
  • 0-2 years of experience in hydrographic surveys and processing hydrographic survey data.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED and technical school training in hydrography.
  • Must be self-motivated, responsible, and reliable.
  • Must be able to make objective and rational decisions.
  • Good documentation skills as well as a strong work ethic.
  • Must have boat experience, trailering, launching, recovery, knowledge of tides and currents.
  • Must be very computer literate, being able to use specialized software and some CAD experience helpful.
  • A valid drivers license and an acceptable motor vehicle and criminal record.
  • Ability to perform field work, including travel (50 to 70%), weekends, holidays, and the physical ability to lift objects over 50lbs.
