State of North Carolina - Department of Environmental Quality is seeking a Geologist/Hydrogeologist (NS) to evaluate permit applications under the Underground Injection Control program and assess health and environmental hazards related to treated waste disposal. The role involves fieldwork, data review, and coordinating with permittees and the public.

Preferred candidates have a bachelor's degree in geology or related fields; licensure is not required but a plus.

Qualificações

• Bachelor’s degree in geology, geosciences, physical science or a related field, or engineering with 30 credit hours of geological science coursework from an accredited college or university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• NC Board Licensure is not required but is considered an asset.

Responsabilidades

• Coordinate groundwater compliance for wastewater disposal activities, permitted or regulated by the Division.
• Conduct site and data compliance assessments regarding facility performance, operation, and maintenance.
• Sampling of groundwater and soil to project or monitor any potential threat of health hazard due to contaminant migration.
• Review permits for Underground Injection Control (UIC), geothermal injection, wastewater surface application, or other waste management systems.
• Evaluate geothermal well systems, land application systems, and hydrogeological site characteristics.
• Collect groundwater samples, soil and bedrock properties, and determine groundwater flow direction and velocity.
