The Hydrogeologist will support Fervo Energy’s geoscience and reservoir development workstream to achieve our geothermal energy development goals. This position will play a key role in characterizing, extracting, and managing valuable makeup water necessary to support engineered geothermal systems. Responsibilities will include the use of regional groundwater data to evaluate the potential for long-term extraction of deep aquifers, 3-D numerical groundwater modeling to predict and manage water usage, and supporting well planning and drilling campaigns.
Responsibilities
- Conduct evaluations of regional groundwater systems using geospatial datasets, well logs, and drilling records to support geothermal development and resource management.
- Design and calibrate 3D numerical groundwater flow models with industry-standard software (e.g., MODFLOW, FEFLOW).
- Lead aquifer testing and analysis programs to assess water well productivity and aquifer parameters.
- Integrate multidisciplinary datasets to support model validation and refinement.
- Oversee water well drilling campaigns, including site selection, design, real-time monitoring, and post-construction assessments.
- Support regulatory compliance, preparing technical documentation for groundwater permitting and environmental assessments.
- Collaborate with engineering, geoscience, and regulatory teams to inform project planning and sustainability strategies.
- Travel to field locations across the western U.S. for site assessments, drilling oversight, and data collection.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years experience as a hydrogeologist in academia, consulting, or regulatory fields.
- Expertise with groundwater modeling software (MODFLOW) and related tools.
- Proficiency in data analysis and scripting languages (Python, MATLAB, R).
- Experience with advanced groundwater well testing (e.g., transmissivity, conductivity, storativity, yield).
- Experience in water well construction design and field testing.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters or PhD in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or related fields.
- Expertise in water well design and remote sensing data evaluation.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations.
