Job summary

Seattle City Light is seeking an experienced Hydroelectric Operator to monitor and operate plant equipment, ensuring safety and compliance across dams, waterways, and power systems. You will follow dispatch instructions, coordinate switching, and maintain detailed logs for performance and safety reporting.

The role requires 2 years in electrical trade or hydroelectric operations, a valid WA driver’s license, and willingness to work nights, weekends, and on-call shifts.

Qualifications

• Two years' experience in the electrical trade or as a Hydroelectric Operator.
• Current Washington State Driver's License.
• Obtain a boater safety card.
• Normal sense of smell, hearing and color vision.
• May be required to work nights, evenings, weekends and/or rotating shifts.
• May be required to stand, walk or bend for extended periods and work at heights

Responsibilities

• Operates and monitors electric, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment which includes valves, spill gates, generators, and other equipment related to operating a hydroelectric plant.
• Ensures worker safety when malfunctions occur.
• Safely operate a boats day or night and in poor weather conditions.
• Receives switching orders and coordinates with dispatchers; recommends when plant equipment may be taken out of service.
• Inspects powerhouses, dams, switchyards and equipment; notifies appropriate personnel of abnormal conditions.
• Maintains logs and prepares reports such as Daily Visual Dam Surveillance and Powerhouse Inspection Reports.
• Participate in assigned special projects and train Operator I's.
