Job summary

Brookfield Asset Management Inc. seeks a Power Plant Operator for the Safe Harbor Hydro-Electric Generating Station in Conestoga, PA.

The PPO will operate 417MW of hydro equipment, manage high voltage switching, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance in a 24/7 environment. The role requires reading electrical/hydraulic/mechanical prints, proficiency with MS Office, and willingness to travel for training; 3+ years in power plant operations are preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Ability to read and understand electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical prints.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
• Ability to perform physical work including lifting, climbing, and working at heights.
• Clear oral, written, and electronic communication skills.
• Experience in hydro-electric dam operations is preferred.
• Experience with repair and maintenance of hydro turbine/generator systems is preferred.
• Maintain medical clearance for respirator use and pass respirator tests.
• Willingness to travel for training and obtain NERC/CIP clearance.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Operate station 24/7 with rotating 12‑hour shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Perform safe operation and switching of generators, transformers, and related equipment.
• Manage water treatment processes to meet state water quality standards.
• Coordinate high voltage switching with transmission entities and Amtrak.
• Conduct daily facility inspections and respond to alarms.
• Enforce Lock Out Tag Out and isolate/return equipment to service.
• Ensure compliance with FERC, NERC, RFC, DEP, and OSHA regulations.
• Write and review station procedures as assigned.
• Support plant maintenance and regulatory reporting, including sampling and lab pickups.
