Job summary

Ecotech Hydro Excavation is seeking a Vacuum Excavation Technician to support the Foreman and field crew in safe, efficient vacuum excavation work. You will operate the support truck, assist with equipment operation, and perform general construction tasks in varying weather conditions.

Your role requires a valid driver's license, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to report to the shop location for flexible hours, including overtime.

Qualifications

  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Willingness to obtain Class B or higher CDL.
  • Mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with vacuum excavation and general construction tasks.
  • Operate support truck and transport materials and safety equipment.
  • Support Foreman and field crew, ensuring safety and schedule adherence.
  • Identify mechanical issues and report to Foreman/leadership.
  • Work flexible hours, including overtime and emergency response.

Position Summary: The Vacuum Excavation Technician is responsible for supporting the Foreman and field crew in the safe and efficient execution of vacuum excavation work. This role includes operating the support truck, assisting with equipment operation, and performing general construction tasks. The technician works closely with the Foreman to ensure all work is completed in accordance with safety standards, company policies, and customer expectations. This position requires regular outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Field Execution
  • Work alongside the Forman to complete vacuum excavation and general construction tasks, including but not limited to core drilling, shoveling, tamping, backfilling.
  • Support all phases of job execution, including mobilization, equipment operation, and site organization.
  • Complete assigned work efficiently while delivering high-quality customer service.
  • Safely operate the support truck to transport materials, piping, and safety equipment.
  • Identify mechanical issues in the field to Foreman/leadership
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early starts, overtime, and emergency response.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accountability for personal safety and contribute to a safe environment for employees, customers, and the public.
  • Participate in safety meetings and maintain required certifications, training, and licenses.
Communication & Administration
  • Follow guidance from Foreman and work independently as needed to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Maintain professionalism and act as representative of the company in all aspects of the job.
  • Communicate job progress, issues, and risks to management in a timely manner.
  • Maintain organized job sites and accurately complete work orders, time entries, and documentation.
Qualifications and Skills:
Experience & Certifications
  • Prior experience in construction or similar fieldwork is helpful but not required.
  • A valid Driver’s License is required.
  • Willingness to obtain Class B or higher CDL.
Technical & Safety Competence
  • Strong understanding of safety practices and commitment to safe work execution.
  • Mechanical aptitude with ability to assist in troubleshooting minor equipment issues.
  • Basic computer skills for time entry and work order completion.
  • Must consent to background check, motor vehicle check, and pre-employment drug screening; comply with Ecotech’s drug-free workplace policy.

Physical Requirements:
  • Regular outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Perform physically demanding work including frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of equipment and materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and work in awkward or confined spaces for extended periods and on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights as required by assignment.
  • Ability to wear required PPE for the duration of each assignment, including safety vest, hard hat, steel-toed boots, gloves, and respiratory protection as required.
