Job summary

Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is seeking an Engineer Intern-level hydraulics engineer to support the Region Hydraulics Unit. The role involves design calculations, analysis, and documentation for drainage on CDOT facilities, under supervision of a licensed engineer, with opportunities to interact with private and public stakeholders.

The ideal candidate has enrollment as an Engineer Intern, strong hydraulic knowledge, and the ability to work in a hybrid environment.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment as an Engineer Intern by the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors.
• One year of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
• Substitutions: licensure as a Professional Engineer can substitute for enrollment as an Engineer Intern; additional education can substitute for experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-house hydrologic and hydraulic design and analysis support to the Region Design Team for CDOT construction plans and strategic plans.
• Provide final recommendations, design reviews, and direction on complex drainage issues in collaboration with the Hydraulics Unit PE I and project staff.
• Prepare estimates of hydrologic runoff volumes and hydraulic distribution of hazards and impacts.
• Determine applicable design standards and develop plan sets and specifications for roadway projects.
• Review consultant deliverables and ensure adherence to CDOT standards.
• Monitor consultant progress and manage time and budget for tasks.
• Support maintenance teams with hydraulic design and funding solutions.
• Other duties as assigned by management.
