Job summary

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) seeks a Hydraulics Design Engineer to design bridge waterways, culverts, and drainage systems for trunk highways. This role provides technical support to districts, municipalities, and counties and involves hydraulic analysis and climate resiliency efforts.

The position is located in Oakdale with potential hybrid work arrangement; a telework plan must be arranged with the supervisor, and the incumbent will work on office-based policy and project

Qualifications

  • Licensure as a professional engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity.
  • Experience in hydraulics and hydrology, including 2D modeling of streams and rivers.
  • Experience analyzing and preparing engineering data.
  • Experience providing technical guidance and support to others.

Responsibilities

  • Design bridge waterways, culverts, deck drain systems, retention/detention basins and channels for trunk highways.
  • Provide technical expertise to MnDOT District Offices, municipalities and county engineers as requested.
  • Conduct bridge scour evaluation on new and existing bridges and design countermeasures.
  • Update drainage standards and support hydraulic automation and asset management.

Job Summary

This position is located at the Bridge Office in Oakdale and may have flexibility to work a hybrid schedule or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.

As a Hydraulics Design Engineer, you will design bridge waterways, culverts, deck drain systems, retention/detention basins and channels for trunk highways. This position provides technical expertise and assistance to MnDOT District Offices, municipalities and county engineers as requested; conducts bridge scour evaluation on new and existing bridges and design countermeasures. In addition, the position updates drainage standards and supports hydraulic automation and asset management and will be involved in hydraulic climate resiliency efforts at MnDOT.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Licensure as a professional engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity. (If obtaining licensure through reciprocity, a practice pending letter from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR before starting employment.) AND

  • Experience in hydraulics and hydrology, including 2D modeling of streams and rivers.
  • Experience analyzing and preparing engineering data.
  • Experience providing technical guidance and support to others.
