We seek an entry- to mid-level Hydraulic/Civil Engineer with EIT, strong design and field experience to join our team in Seattle. Responsibilities include field data collection, hydraulic analyses, and design of habitat restoration projects, with opportunities for growth and client collaboration.

Qualifications

• BS degree in civil/hydraulic engineering; MS degree strongly preferred.
• 0–6 years of experience as hydraulic/civil engineer; EIT certified.
• Course work in open channel hydraulics, river/geomorphology, coastal hydraulics, and design.
• Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley Open Roads Designer, MicroStation and ArcGIS.
• Hydrologic modeling experience with HEC-1/HEC-HMS and HY-8 (recommended).
• Strong writing, organization and communication skills; travel willingness.

Responsibilities

• Perform field assessments, hydrologic data collection and sediment sampling.
• Conduct engineering analysis, design, and report writing.
• Analyze hydrology, hydraulics, sediment transport; FEMA floodplain mapping.
• Design plans for habitat restoration and hydraulic structures; provide estimates.
• Provide construction observation, project management, and client support.
• Develop proposals and manage scopes, budgets, and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Perform field assessments, stream and fluvial characterization; hydrologic data collection and water quality and sediment sampling; familiarity of stream and coastal hydraulic and geomorphic processes.
• Perform engineering analysis, design, and report writing tasks.
• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic and sediment transport; erosion and scour analyses; and FEMA floodplain mapping and modeling.
• Design and develop plans, estimates, and specifications for habitat restoration and hydraulic structures including channels, ponds, levees, bank protection, scour protection, grade control, fish passage design of culvert and bridges, streambed materials, and large woody material.
• Provide construction observation and technical support to clients.
• Provide project and task management services.
• Develop proposals and manage scope of services, budgets, and schedules.
• Provide marketing, proposal, and client development support.
• Follow Shannon & Wilson's Quality Assurance policy.
• Follow and promote Shannon & Wilson's Health & Safety policy and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

• BS degree in civil/hydraulic engineering; MS degree in civil/hydraulic engineering strongly preferred.
• 0-6 years of experience as hydraulic/civil engineer.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certified.
• Course work and/or project experience in one or more of the following areas: open channel hydraulics and environmental river mechanics, sediment transport, fluvial and/or coastal geomorphology, coastal hydraulics, hydraulic structures, hydrology, civil design, project and construction management, and survey,
• Software experience including AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley (Open Roads Designer), Microstation, and Arc-GIS.
• Hydrologic modeling experience with WMS (preferred), HEC-1 and/or HEC-HMS (required), MGS Flood, TR-55, TR-21, FFEQ, SBUH, WWHM (a plus), HEC-RAS1D/2D and HEC-GeoRAS, HY-8 (required), other hydraulic modeling (a plus).
• Creative individual with client service focus desired.

• The ability to work independently with the appropriate level of OR minimal supervision.

• Basic computer skills: MS Word, Excel (required); MS Access (desirable).
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting and carrying 30+ pounds.
• Working in all weather conditions, on uneven terrain.
• The ability to travel (drive or fly) to field sites per project needs and job sites locally and out of state.
• The ability to get a pass for access to military facilities.

Level Placement

Typically, depending on an applicant’s education, experience, overall abilities, alignment with the needs of the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, a Entry-Level Hydraulic Engineer typically would be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Professional I, II, III, IV level.

Compensation

Professional I: $35.00 - $38.50 per hour

Professional II: $83,500 - $90,000 annual salary

Professional III: $85,000 - $100,000 annual salary

Professional IV: $95,000 - $115,000 annual salary
