Job summary

University of Wisconsin–Madison is seeking a System Engineer II to support the College of Engineering’s CAE team. The role focuses on Windows deployments, infrastructure, and enterprise services to enable instruction, research, and outreach.

The candidate will work with a Windows system administrator and DSPs to implement core tooling, improve Windows support, and participate in professional development. A hybrid schedule is anticipated with some on-site days.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of Windows 11 and Windows Server administration, including OS architecture, configuration, security, troubleshooting, and enterprise deployment.
• Experience managing Windows endpoint lifecycle operations, including imaging, provisioning, configuration, software deployment, patching, security configuration, troubleshooting, and retirement.
• Microsoft Configuration Manager (SCCM) skills: configuring/maintaining CM infrastructure, site architecture, distribution points, boundaries, collections, OS deployment, updates, and applications.
• Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively on a CAE staff team to improve desktop computing.
• Ability to analyze and prioritize requests for support.

Responsibilities

• Identifies strategic technological and architectural needs and makes recommendations for improvement.
• Identifies, troubleshoots, researches, and resolves issues on unique systems, platforms, networks, and applications to ensure system security, confidentiality, compatibility, and functionality.
• Designs, installs, configures tests, and maintains automation, hardware, and equipment according to customer specifications to meet unit objectives.
• Plans and coordinates system logistics, workflows, upgrades, and system security procedures.
• Documents and disseminates deployed systems, upgrades, or changes to appropriate entities per policies.
• Installs firewalls, host/client access mechanisms, permissions, and user accounts.
