Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Transmission and Drive Unit Engineering Designer to craft detailed, production-ready designs that integrate functionality, safety, quality and manufacturability at the Warren Tech Center.

You will partner with cross-functional teams to transform advanced concepts into robust solutions, using advanced NX CAD modeling and TS collaboration tools. This hybrid role requires strong attention to detail and knowledge of DFSS and manufacturing integration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology required.
• 3+ years of engineering design experience.
• Advanced NX CAD modeling and drawing skills.
• Advanced experience with Teamcenter and TcVis.
• Knowledge of engineering theory and automotive design principles.
• Knowledge of design for manufacturing and design for assembly.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to integrate complex subsystems and solve technical problems.

Responsibilities

• Develop integrated subsystems and resolve packaging challenges while maintaining design standards and engineering criteria.
• Develop and integrate component engineering criteria in collaboration with Manufacturing, Assistant Chief Engineers, and Design System Engineers.
• Create and update detailed 2D drawings, GD&T, tolerance stacks, and other product definition documentation.
• Apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and design-thinking methods to evaluate alternatives and manage trade-offs involving cost, mass, timing, dimensional variation, assembly, and architecture.
• Integrate global and regional safety requirements into transmission and drive unit designs.
• Communicate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve technical issues within the area of responsibility.
• Participate in Core Meetings, Math Virtual Assessments, and Synch Point reviews to validate design integrity, integration, manufacturability, and design for assembly.
• Benchmark competitors and industry solutions to evaluate packaging and component performance.
• Create and maintain NX models and continue to develop NX design skills.
• Incorporate Voice of the Customer insights into packaging and design solutions.
