Job summary

Johnson County Library seeks an Associate Director to lead system-wide administration, shaping the vision, mission, and strategy for multiple departments, in close partnership with the County Librarian and Deputy County Librarian.

The role requires strategic thinking, strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building with staff and the community, advancing performance and policy across the library system.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Library Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
• Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in library, government, nonprofit, public service, or relevant field.
• Seven (7) years leading, directing, supervising, or coordinating the work of others.
• Three (3) years leading or overseeing project work.
• Travel: 10% local travel; 5% outside Johnson County.
• Experience may be substituted for degree.

Responsibilities

• Model the County's Pillars of Performance and mentor leaders.
• Plan and manage department operations and track strategic progress.
• Guide public service delivery and manage budgets, contracts, and facilities.
• Contribute to system-wide planning and ensure charters.
• Co-develop service standards and coordinate management meetings.
• Represent the Library and manage MOUs with partners.
• Forecast expenditures and ensure adherence to budget policies.
• Directly supervise 4 full-time employees.
