Job summary

GFT is seeking an Entry Level Substation Engineer to join our power group in St. Louis, MO. The role operates under a hybrid model with a requirement of three days onsite, contributing to transmission, distribution, and renewable energy projects.

You will learn to design utility substation components from 69kV to 500kV, developing layouts, schematics, and power systems with senior staff guidance, while building a foundation in electrical engineering and project coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 0 to 2 years of experience in design, engineering and project management within power/utility.
• Demonstrated interest in electrical engineering and substation/power design via coursework, internship, or work.
• Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with development of Substation layout drawings (plan/elevations, yard layouts, grounding, raceway, control building layouts, cable lists, material lists).
• Help develop Substation one-lines, SCADA and Communications Systems, Relay Panel Layouts, Equipment Wiring, and Cable Schedules.
• Prepare calculations and report results to clients.
• Assist in preparing equipment specifications for substation equipment and construction.
