Job summary

Southern Company Services in Birmingham seeks a Structural Engineer to provide design services for capital and retrofit projects, focusing on industrial power generation facilities. You will develop and check structural analyses and drawings while coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure project success.

The role requires delivering contract documents and supporting plants and construction through all phases, with some travel up to 25% and a hybrid in-office/field schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering from ABET-accredited program is required
• PE or SE license in AL/MS/GA or ability to obtain is desirable
• At least 5 years of structural design experience, preferably with power generation or heavy industrial facilities

Responsibilities

• Produce and check structural design calculations and drawings
• Multitask and prioritize multiple project assignments to meet tight dates
• Communicate effectively with Supervisor, project team and Plant contacts
• Develop scope and man-hour estimates for assigned projects
• Coordinate design activities with other disciplines
• Provide schedule and staffing input for projects
• Prepare cost estimates and material takeoffs
• Provide engineering support to Plants and Construction through all project phases
• Occasional travel to Birmingham office, sites, and client locations
