Job summary

Virgin Galactic seeks a Sr. Structures Design Engineer to develop and optimize structural designs for aircraft and spacecraft. You will create 3D parts, assemblies, and drawings, and coordinate with teams across design, production, and test.

The role may be located in Mesa, AZ or Tustin, CA, with 4 days on-site and 1 day remote. The candidate should have a strong aerospace design background (8+ years), CATIA experience, PLM tools, and proficiency in GD&T.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
8+ years of aerospace design experience with emphasis on aircraft/spacecraft structures.
Knowledge of aircraft structural design and industry standards for manufacture, repair, and assembly.
Experience with CAD and composite workbenches to design aircraft/spacecraft structures and components.
Experience with GD&T per ASME Y14.5, drawing creation, assembly tolerance stack-up analysis.
Experience with PLM tools, requirements management, and configuration management.
Strong MS Office and technical writing skills; ability to present technical material.

Responsibilities

Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs of structural configurations.
Create components or portions of a system to support manufacturing operations.
Integrate vehicle systems.
Create and release detailed 3D parts, assemblies, installations, and drawings.
Develop technical solutions to complex problems requiring ingenuity.
Work independently and conform to industry standards and targets.
Coordinate with engineering stakeholders during design, production, test, delivery, and operation.
Support production and operations to ensure flight readiness; involve fabrication and MRB.
Participate in continuous improvement of design practices and technologies.
Author design standards, best practices, and procedures; train teammates.
Provide design engineering support to internal or external customers.
Prepare clear and concise reports that collect, analyze, and summarize information.
Work collaboratively to achieve goals and complete tasks.
