Job summary

Albemarle County is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist in Charlottesville, VA, to perform complex payroll tasks under supervision. The role involves preparing, auditing, and reconciling payrolls, handling benefits deductions, tax withholdings, and related reporting with accuracy and GAAP awareness.

You will support W-2/W-3 processing, respond to employee inquiries, and assist in setup of new pay/deduction codes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or accounting and 4+ years of payroll processing or financial reporting experience.
• Experience with ADP payroll systems preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and payroll tax requirements.

Responsibilities

• Process payroll batches and manual entries for payroll runs.
• Verify proper coding of payroll input data and post payroll files.
• Prepare manual paychecks as needed and reconcile payments to vendors.
• Respond to employee questions on payroll checks, deductions and tax withholdings.
• Reconcile and issue W-2s and W-3s and process amended payrolls as required.
• Create ad hoc payroll reports and train end users on standard reports.
