Job summary

Ammortal Inc is seeking a senior software engineer to own the Chamber's application software on embedded Linux, interfacing with hardware over serial and bus protocols. You’ll help set architectural direction and quality standards while collaborating with hardware and operations teams.

The role offers hands-on ownership, growth into technical leadership, and a direct hand in shaping how the Chamber works for users, with a hybrid setup in the Asheville area.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with meaningful time spent on Linux-based systems.
• Hands-on experience with embedded Linux and software interfacing hardware over serial/bus protocols (e.g., Modbus, I2C, SPI, RS-485).
• Strong proficiency in Go, C, or C++, plus at least one high-level language (Python/JavaScript).
• Experience designing and shipping production software in microservices or distributed architectures.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and development of Chamber application software on embedded Linux and hardware communication.
• Lead architectural decisions for the microservices-based platform and drive to implementation.
• Define and uphold engineering standards for code quality, testing, and deployment.
• Act as the technical escalation point for complex customer and field issues.
• Maintain and extend early-gen Chamber software; contribute to frontend work when needed.
• Collaborate with hardware, operations, and customer experience teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
