Job summary

Virginia Tech seeks a Senior Technical Analyst to lead the Data and Analytics division of the HRIT department, bridging applications development and data analysis to deliver secure, actionable insights across the university workforce.

You will lead a hybrid team of Developers and Data Analysts, guide architecture, build data pipelines and dashboards, ensure data security and compliance, and collaborate with HR leadership to foster data-driven decision making.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Information Technology, CS, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Analytics, or related field.
• Experience in a technical lead, supervisor, or project leadership role within apps dev or data IT.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and relational DB design.
• Experience designing data pipelines, dashboards, and analytics reports with Tableau, MicroStrategy, or Excel.
• Excellent communication and ability to present complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a hybrid team of Applications Developers and Data Analysts.
• Direct technical design and integration of HR applications, databases, and enterprise systems; enforce best practices.
• Design and enhance data dashboards and reporting solutions (PowerBI, Strategy) for HR decisions.
• Enforce data security, privacy, and compliance with university policies and regulations.
• Elicit requirements and advise on process improvements and survey design with campus partners.
