PenFed Credit Union in Tysons, Virginia is seeking a Senior Accountant for a Hybrid role. You will apply GAAP knowledge to prepare and analyze financial information, record transactions, and support audits and policy projects.

Responsibilities include monthly closings, preparing financial statements, reconciliations, and designing reports. You will collaborate with consultants and auditors, and training staff as needed to ensure continuity and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
• 4+ years of related accounting experience.
• Strong GAAP knowledge; CPA preferred.
• Examples of presenting accounting results to stakeholders.
• Strong Excel skills: pivots and VLOOKUPs.
• Ability to simplify large data sets in Excel.
• Curious and adaptable in a dynamic environment.
• Strong writing, verbal and presentation skills.
• Experience with monthly accounting close preferred.
• Experience using AI tools preferred.

Responsibilities

• Compile and record financial information to the general ledger; complete monthly closings.
• Prepare balance sheet, income statements, and other schedules.
• Perform reconciliations to ensure ledger accuracy and auditability.
• Execute and manage timely, accurate transactions.
• Identify control weaknesses and implement remedial changes.
• Design and produce reports.
• Conduct research and analyses for projects.
• Provide information to auditors and consultants on significant matters.
• Assist in maintaining accounting systems for proper recognition of transactions.
• Support staff and act as escalation point for Staff Accountants.
