Job summary

SOLV Energy, a leading infrastructure services provider for the power industry, seeks a seasoned commissioning specialist to support pre-commissioning and on-site testing of SCADA and site communications at utility-scale solar projects.

The role is hybrid with on-site work at job sites and partial remote work. You will coordinate with engineering, construction, and QA teams, perform tests, document results, and uphold safety and regulatory standards across U.S. sites.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience in commissioning utility-scale solar power projects.
• Strong knowledge of solar PV systems, inverters, transformers, and electrical infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of networking and communications systems.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
• Ability to interpret Electrical and Mechanical Drawings/Schematics
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with relevant industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and implement site specific commissioning plans and adhere to schedules.
• Coordinate with project teams, including engineering, construction, QA, SCADA to ensure alignment on commissioning activities.
• Conduct pre-commissioning and commissioning tests, including performance, functional, and reliability testing of all communications systems.
• Ensure all commissioning activities comply with industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues during commissioning to ensure optimal SCADA and site communications performance.
• Prepare detailed commissioning reports, documenting test results, issues encountered, and corrective actions taken.
• Continuously improve commissioning processes by incorporating feedback and lessons learned from completed projects.
• Assist site commissioning personnel in establishing the Safety Tagging, Lockout & Work Permit Program and ensuring compliance with its provisions.
• Utility scale solar power plants testing for EPC or Utilities in the United States
• Fiber installation and testing
• Ethernet installation and testing
• Serial communications installation and testing (Modbus, DNP, etc)
• SCADA system understanding, testing, and commissioning
• Knowledgeable in NFPA/NEC standards, and IEEE/IES/API Standards.
• NETA and IEEE standards as related to utility scale solar generation (Transformers, MV/LV cabling, grounding)
• Understands the commercial performance of power plants
• Familiarity with NERC guidelines and ISO/TSO requirements a plus.
• Familiarity with DCS/SCADA control systems and methods for utility scale generation a plus.
• Familiarity with testing of mechanical and solid state relaying systems a plus.
