Job summary

The Retention Specialist at UC San Diego works under the CASP director to plan and coordinate retention initiatives for targeted student populations, including those on academic probation or dismissed, with emphasis on close collaboration with campus partners to design interventions.

Responsibilities focus on analyzing cohort data, providing advisement, and supporting Colleges and Deans to help students stay enrolled and complete degrees, across January, May, June, August and December cycles.

Qualifications

• Graduation from college with major in counseling or related field and two years of related experience.
• Knowledge of personal growth and development areas, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, values, and career choices.
• Knowledge of methodologies to enhance student achievement and higher education development.
• Familiarity with research methodologies and ability to analyze data and prepare reports.
• Strong written and oral communication with confidentiality and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive retention strategy with CASP director.
• Provide advisement and interventions for at-risk students and those no longer enrolled.
• Analyze cohort data to identify trends and recommend outreach to improve retention.
• Collaborate with Colleges and Deans to align with university policies and graduation requirements.
