Job summary

San José State University is seeking a Student Support Specialist to advance retention and persistence under the CSU ASAP grant. The role focuses on culturally responsive services to support low-income, first-generation, and underserved students, helping them navigate campus resources and persist across terms.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a related field.
• Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Support CSU ASAP grant initiatives focused on retention and student populations.
• Conduct proactive outreach to first-year and transfer students to support transitions to SJSU.
• Design engagement strategies to increase belonging and awareness of campus resources.
• Provide guidance on navigating university systems and processes.
• Maintain accurate records of student participation for reporting.
