Job summary

Dartmouth Health is seeking a licensed Genetic Counselor to provide counseling, coordinate screening and diagnostic testing, and follow up with individuals and families in New Hampshire. The role includes triage of referrals, taking histories, and coordinating laboratory tests.

You will discuss risk factors, explain test results, document communications in the EMR, participate in teaching and research, and contribute to department protocols.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling or the equivalent in education and experience required.
• Excellent communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates aspects of genetic consultations for individuals and families.
• Provides triage for referrals, incoming calls, and inpatient consults.
• Obtains and evaluates histories to determine genetic risk for conditions.
• Discusses features, natural history, diagnosis, genetic and environmental factors, and management with patients and families.
• Identifies and coordinates genetic laboratory tests and other diagnostic studies.
• Explains clinical implications of test results.
• Integrates lab results with histories to assess risk factors.
• Evaluates patient/family response to genetic information and provides counseling.
• Provides written documentation in the EMR for families.
• Participates in teaching of residents, medical students, and genetic counseling students.
• Assists with data entry and maintenance of the department database.
• Participates in ongoing research and development of department protocols.
• Performs other duties as required.
