Job summary

HED seeks an Architectural Designer III to join its PreK–12 Education practice in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, or Los Angeles. This mid-level role supports project teams from early design through construction under supervision, with increasing autonomy as you grow your technical and design skills.

The ideal candidate has experience delivering California PreK‑12 facilities and a solid understanding of DSA requirements, and is prepared to collaborate across disciplines in a hybrid work

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and licensure in architecture required.
  • LEED accredited preferred with sustainable design focus.
  • Minimum seven years' experience in A/E industry.
  • Proficiency in Revit.
  • Experience delivering California PreK-12 educational facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of DSA procedures and relevant codes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and coordination of the architectural scope with the Project Manager.
  • Produce and manage construction documents meeting standards and codes.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external consultants for alignment.
  • Support code interpretation and AHJ permitting coordination.
  • Conduct material, product, and building systems research for detailing.
  • Oversee construction administration: RFIs, submittals, field reports.
  • May serve as Architect of Record and sign/seal documents when needed.
  • Provide mentorship and development of technical standards.
