Jacobs in Chicago is seeking a Power Systems Engineer – Strategic Projects to lead and support a portfolio of high‑voltage substations, transmission projects, renewables integration, grid modernization, and strategic investments.

You will collaborate across engineering, operations, regulatory, and leadership teams; perform system studies; develop design criteria; and guide projects from planning through commissioning in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of utility, transmission, substation, or power systems engineering experience.
• Experience with high-voltage systems ranging from 69kV through 500kV.
• Familiarity with IEEE, NESC, NEC, and utility design practices.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.
• Experience supporting renewable generation interconnections (PV, wind, BESS).
• Experience with EPC or consultant-managed projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead HV substation and transmission projects, including protection and control systems.
• Perform studies, evaluations, and system assessments.
• Develop scopes, specs, design criteria, and recommendations.
• Coordinate design activities through planning, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
• Collaborate across Energy and Power teams and engage external stakeholders.
• Present findings to leadership and support capital budgeting.
