Job summary

Cushing Terrell is seeking a Permit Technician to support the permitting process for our national retail and grocery projects, with on-site or hybrid work from one of our offices. You will join a new permit group, working with the Permit Manager, project teams, and municipal jurisdictions to move permits from application to issuance.

Within the first year you will manage 50–75 permits across various states, build strong relationships with AHJs, and contribute ideas to improve our evolving permit

Qualifications

• Experience in architecture, engineering, or construction coordination or admin.
• Strong computer proficiency across multiple programs and browser windows.
• High attention to detail to avoid submittal delays.
• Ability to manage several deadlines and priorities at once.
• Adaptable and resourceful when requirements change mid-project.
• Comfort with an iterative review and resubmittal process.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Identify permitting scope and prepare applications and docs for submittal.
• Track jurisdiction contacts and permit status nationwide.
• Submit permit applications and coordinate through reviews until approved.
• Gather documentation from project architects/engineers for submittals.
• Build relationships with AHJs across multiple states.
• Maintain tracking logs and status reports in Smartsheet.
• Flag delays and risks to keep timelines intact.
• Suggest process improvements as the permit group grows.
