Job summary

Roadrunner Transportation Systems Inc seeks an Operations Research & Applied AI Engineer to build and grow analytics capabilities, blending optimization with AI in production. This hands-on role drives model design, evaluation, and business trade-offs across network planning, pricing, and operations.

You’ll translate data into scalable solutions, collaborate with stakeholders, and push AI/optimization improvements from prototype to production, with rigorous benchmarking and monitoring.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of experience applying mathematical optimization to production business problems.
• Advanced degree may substitute for part of this experience.
• Strong mixed-integer programming proficiency and solver skills (SCIP, Gurobi, CPLEX).
• Experience with production AI applications and evaluating model outputs.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, maintain, and improve mathematical optimization models for network planning, capacity, and resource allocation.
• Develop applied AI applications that automate processes and support decision-making.
• Identify opportunities and build business cases for optimization/AI initiatives.
• Benchmark system outputs and validate improvements with rigorous testing frameworks.
• Engage with stakeholders to translate requirements into models and present trade-offs clearly.
