Job summary

The Brooklyn Museum is seeking a Custodial Assistant/Custodian—Operations to join the Operations, Engineering & Facilities team in Brooklyn, NY. The role focuses on cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining both public and non-public spaces, including offices, galleries, and stairwells.

This temporary, full-time position reports to the Director of Facilities and requires physical stamina, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and basic computer skills. Some shifts include overtime and weekend hours.

Qualifications

• Able to meet medical and physical requirements for medium labor and cleaning.
• Ability to lift and transport heavy items up to 50 pounds.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.

Responsibilities

• Dust, sweep, mop, and maintain assigned areas including offices, galleries, staircases, and other spaces.
• Remove gum, spot clean floors, and vacuum carpets as needed.
• Dust and wash glass surfaces and maintain curtains, drapes, blinds, and shades.
• Operate custodial equipment and report unsafe conditions or maintenance issues.
