Job summary

Black & Decker (U.S.) Inc. in Towson, MD is seeking a Model Based Design Engineer for Electric Motors. The role blends hands-on model development with calibration, simulation, and early design testing to reduce prototype risks.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with suppliers and research institutions, and contribute to regulatory readiness while advancing motor and control models across the product family.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field (PhD preferred).
• 5+ years of experience in electromagnetic and thermal design of motors with model-based design.
• Proven experience with 2D and 3D finite element analysis tools for motor design.
• Experience in modeling 3-phase inverters, including thermal aspects.
• Strong knowledge of electrical system thermal modeling using lumped parameter circuits.

Responsibilities

• Create robust motor models using model-based engineering tools (MATLAB/Simulink, Twin Builder).
• Develop and implement calibration processes for electromagnetic and thermal models.
• Simulate and test motor models to identify design issues early.
• Modify electromagnetic design based on early learning before prototyping.
• Mentor and train engineers in model-based design and controls engineering.
