Job summary

Battelle in Columbus, OH is seeking a Data Scientist for an onsite/hybrid role. You will address data analysis for complex problems, collaborate with junior staff under senior technical guidance, and contribute to technical solutions and data pipelines.

You will communicate findings in reports, present to project leaders and clients, support proposals, and travel domestically as needed. A U.S. citizen with ability to obtain security clearance is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 2 years of relevant experience, OR a Master's degree, OR a PhD in Statistics, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or Physics.
• Experience developing machine learning, predictive modeling, and AI workflows (including NLP and generative AI).
• Experience implementing, testing, and validating ML or DL models with modern analytics tools.
• Demonstrated expertise in manipulating and analyzing large datasets.
• Programming in Python and/or R.
• Strong algorithmic programming and data visualization skills.
• Experience with Git and collaborative software development practices, including version control and code review.
• Strong analytical, multitasking, problem-solving, organizational, and planning skills.
• U.S. citizen with ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and improve methodologies for solving complex statistical, machine learning, and deep learning problems with minimal supervision and within time and budget constraints.
• Present research results to clients and participate in scientific conferences, peer review panels, and publications to increase Battelle's visibility.
• Review literature to identify appropriate methods for solving statistical or ML/DL problems, implement those methods, and develop improvements.
• Communicate regularly with project leaders, client stakeholders, and interdisciplinary technical teams.
• Create technical reports and presentations describing results for clients.
• Support business development by contributing technical material to proposals and planning technical budgets and schedules.
• Build relationships with Battelle contacts and external clients across disciplines.
• Maintain excellent communication with co-located and distributed team members.
• Plan and carry out professional self-development activities.
• Occasionally travel domestically to client sites and conferences.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
