Job summary

Lam Research in the Portland area is seeking a Metrology Engineer to develop next-generation on-tool metrology and sensing technologies for smarter semiconductor manufacturing. You’ll work at the intersection of optical sensing, machine vision, spectroscopy, and data analytics to transform sensor data into actionable process insights.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Physics, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field with 3+ years experience.
• Strong experimental design, statistical analysis, and technical problem-solving skills.
• Experience with scientific data analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, R, JMP, or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate findings effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy spectroscopy-, imaging-, and vision-based metrology systems for non-contact wafer characterization.
• Design and execute experiments to characterize sensor performance and measurement uncertainty.
• Develop calibration methods, models, and analytics transforming signals into actionable metrics.
• Build algorithms for spectroscopy, image analysis, and data fusion using physics-based and ML methods.
• Correlate measurements with reference metrology and generate wafer-level analytics.
• Characterize and optimize optical subsystems including illumination and spectrometers.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to define requirements and targets.
• Support product development from concept through deployment and documentation.
