Job summary

Essentia Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team in the VALLEY CITY area. This casual position supports pre-analytical and post-analytical functions in our laboratories and involves specimen collection and processing.

The MLA will perform waived testing under applicable accreditation and licensure guidelines, ensuring patient safety and quality. Prior phlebotomy or MLA training, and ASCP certification if available, are valued assets.

Qualifications

• Graduate from Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or complete internal MLA training within 1 year of hire.
• ASCP certification preferred if available.
• Phlebotomy or MLA certification is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Collect specimens via venipuncture or capillary skin puncture and other specimens (urine, swabs, etc.).
• Perform specimen processing and handling according to testing requirements.
• Perform laboratory testing as allowed by accreditation/licensure requirements.
• Assist in training new employees, students and other personnel as appropriate.
