Job summary

Essentia Health’s South University Clinic is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to support pre-analytical and post-analytical workflows in a fast-paced lab environment.

You will collect specimens via venipuncture or capillary puncture, process samples according to testing requirements, and perform waived tests under licensure guidelines. The role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and teamwork within a comprehensive lab team.

Qualifications

• Graduate from Medical Laboratory Assistant program or completes an internal MLA training program within 1 year of hire.
• Phlebotomy or MLA certification preferred.
• Recent specimen preparation and processing experience.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Collect specimens via venipuncture or capillary skin puncture and other specimens (urine, swabs).
• Perform specimen processing and handling according to testing requirements.
• Perform laboratory testing in accordance with accreditation and licensure requirements.
• Participate in training of new employees, students, and other personnel as appropriate.
• Follow Essentia Health rules and policies to ensure safety and quality.
