Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group is seeking an Executive Underwriter for Inland Marine to join our high performing team in Bloomington, MN, Brookfield, WI, or Iowa. This is a full-time, exempt, hybrid role focused on underwriting leadership, portfolio quality, and driving profitability.

You will underwrite new and renewal business, develop opportunities with agents, coach junior staff, and collaborate with leadership to execute strategy while ensuring regulatory compliance and market competitiveness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or experience equivalent; professional designations preferred.
• 10+ years of Inland Marine underwriting experience.
• Strong knowledge in underwriting, book management, marketing, and product development.
• Ability to coach underwriters and balance multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication skills with strong presentations and written communication.
• Travel by plane or car as needed.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new business, renewal business, and endorsements.
• Achieve financial targets for growth and profitability.
• Drive execution of plans and strategic underwriting decisions.
• Coach junior underwriters on portfolio management and execution.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and underwriting discipline.
• Develop new business opportunities with agents and promote the Hanover franchise.
• Support broader strategy execution and territory plans.
• Monitor portfolio performance and provide local market feedback for product and appetite improvements.
