Job summary

UNE Leave Manager oversees the administration of employee leave programs including FMLA, Maine FML, PFML, ADA accommodations, medical and parental leave, and Workers' Compensation to ensure compliant processing. Primary contact for employees and supervisors throughout the leave process.

Position may be based in Biddeford, ME or Portland, ME with a hybrid schedule and occasional travel between campuses. Collaboration with HR partners, Payroll, and Benefits ensures accurate pay, benefit

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of FMLA, Maine FML, PFML, ADA/intermediate process, Workers' Compensation procedures, and related regulations.
• Working knowledge of employer-sponsored benefit plans and the interaction between leave administration, payroll, benefits, and retirement plans.
• Demonstrated ability to manage confidential medical information and maintain compliant records.
• Proven experience interpreting medical certifications, determining leave eligibility, and tracking intermittent/reduced-schedule leave.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain leave laws, timelines, and employee obligations clearly to both employees and supervisors.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the administration of FMLA, PFML, ADA, and other University leave types.
• Determine leave eligibility, process required documentation, track usage, and issue notices.
• Coordinate return-to-work with supervisors and HRBPs.
• Maintain confidential leave documentation and ensure privacy compliance.
• Prepare reports and support policy updates; provide training on leave processes.
