Job summary

NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking an Agency Attorney to report to the Sr. Director of Labor Relations and manage labor relations, grievances, and disciplinary procedures.

You will liaise with unions, provide trainings, prepare reports, and advise management on contract obligations and dispute resolution. Minimum qualifications include active NYS Bar admission and relevant experience; seniority progresses through AL II and AL III levels with increased responsibilities in

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar and either one year of United States legal experience after admission or six months as an Agency Attorney Intern.
• Incumbents must remain a member of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of employment.
• To be assigned to AL II or AL III, additional years of experience in related law are required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate agency grievance review and disciplinary appeals proceedings and assist in case preparation for hearings.
• Participate in Labor Management meetings and act as liaison between NYC Office of Labor Relations and the agency.
• Maintain liaison with union representatives and coordinate labor management meetings.
• Prepare and update the Monthly Labor Relations Report.
• Serve as a resource for employee training programs in labor relations.
• Advise management on handling of labor problems and contract obligations.
• Evaluate options for resolution of union-management differences and conduct conflict resolution training.
• Assist in Employee Evaluation Appeal process and conduct data collection for internal disputes.
