Job summary

Dorsey & Whitney LLP seeks a Practice Group Director to lead our Patent, Trademark, Regulatory Affairs, Labor & Employment, and Construction Litigation Groups. Hybrid work arrangement; position based in any U.S. office.

You will coordinate with HR, Finance, Marketing, Knowledge Management, and other admin functions to align priorities, drive efficiency, and champion people-centered processes across Practice Groups.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 10–15 years of supervisory/management experience.
• 7 years of patent and trademark experience including US/foreign filing and docketing.
• Thorough knowledge of US/foreign patent/trademark rules and procedures.
• Strong leadership and project management skills; able to manage multiple initiatives under pressure.
• Excellent collaboration/communication skills; able to handle sensitive personnel and risk issues.
• Familiarity with AI tools and applications; willingness to explore emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

• Act as strategic advisor to firm and Practice Group leadership on operational, people-related, and administrative matters.
• Lead operational and systems initiatives within Patent and Trademark practices; supervise IP Practice Manager.
• Partner with HR, Finance, IS, Knowledge Management, Marketing to implement firm initiatives.
• Lead people-focused initiatives including onboarding, succession planning, training, workload and performance management.
• Coordinate with Finance on budgets, staffing, profitability, and matter management; monitor trends for enhancements.
• Facilitate client reporting and budget tracking; collaborate with Marketing on cross-practice initiatives.
• Support strategic business plans, promote communication, and address morale and retention issues.
