Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking an Academic Internship Site Development Specialist to source, develop, and manage a robust network of internship sites. The role combines research, outreach, and relationship-building on behalf of the Academic Internships Office.

The position reports to the Director of the VCU Academic Internships Office and involves coordinating with faculty, students, and community partners to ensure high-quality learning experiences and compliant placement processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Comfort with technology platforms for relationship management, data tracking, and communication.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for faculty, staff, and students.

Responsibilities

• Identify, recruit, and onboard new internship sites aligned with programs.
• Engage employers, community organizations, and alumni to host credit-bearing internships.
• Represent the Office at outreach events, employer roundtables, and meetings.
• Maintain strong relationships with internship sites and advise on learning objectives.
• Support development of placement agreements, learning contracts, and partnership documentation.
• Assist in site orientations, training, and resource development.
• Contribute to infrastructure and innovative new programs to support site development.
