Job summary

General Motors is seeking an Interior Design Release Engineer to lead IP structure design, validation, and launch for instrument panels across vehicle programs. You will act as a technical authority, coordinating CAD development with GM and suppliers while emphasizing safety, quality, mass, and cost targets.

You will collaborate with CAE and cross‑functional teams, drive design decisions with data, and manage program milestones in a hybrid on‑site setting at the Warren Tech Center.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace, Materials, or related Engineering.
  • 5+ years developing IP structures from definition through launch.
  • Experience with DFMEA/DRBFM, PFMEA, ICDs, CAD workflows, and release processes.
  • Strong CAE partnership and data-based decision making.
  • Proven cross-functional leadership and project management abilities.
  • DfSS Green Belt within 1 year; Black Belt within 2 years preferred.
  • Proficiency with NX/VisMockup and modern productivity tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, development, analysis, integration, validation, and launch of IP structure subsystems across vehicle programs.
  • Develop concepts and perform engineering evaluations using DFMEA, DRBFM, PFMEA, ICDs, and safety analyses.
  • Package components and manage CAD development with GM or supplier designers; lead peer reviews.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes including welded steel stampings, magnesium die castings, and overmolding.
  • Collaborate with Thermal, Electrical, Body, Chassis, and other teams across GM and suppliers.
  • Lead Product Development Team activities, tracking issues and communicating progress.
  • Balance cost, mass, and content while supporting configuration work and continuous improvement.
  • Support SO Requirements and lead Statements of Work; partner with CAE on FEA and robust design.
  • Apply benchmarking for design direction, BOM strategies, and feature content.
  • Lead change management with clear problem statements and defined decisions.
  • Maintain documentation, risk assessments, and lessons learned; coordinate launches.
  • Lead plant builds, supplier trials, DV/PV events, and craftsmanship audits with a quality focus.
  • Contribute to CAE-driven design, virtual execution, automation, and global standards.
